Todd and I are both attempting to lose 15-20 pounds in the next few months. I was super motivated last week, and now my excitement is waning.
I've been walking at 6:15 AM with "the girls" all summer which I've really enjoyed--not for the exercise, but for the visiting. But, starting tomorrow, Todd and my neighbor's husband are going to start working out at the Ranch in the mornings, so our walking has to end (unless I get up at 5:15, which I just don't think I can muster). Todd has also started playing softball and basketball with "the guys" on Thursday nights, so he's definitely on-track to lose faster than me.
I tried to get excited when I discovered Winsor Pilates on TV and recorded a few episodes so I could work out at home. But I have to admit, it's definitely the visiting that got me up in the mornings. We [girls] thought about walking in the evenings--but I have a hard time with that because it's the only time I get to see Todd. We could walk as a family, but it never turns out to be "active" enough to be called exercise.
Does anyone have any idea's for exercise that are fun, inexpensive, and can be done with kids swarming?

"I'd like a slice of elephant, smothered in Prozac, to go, please"
I think that's what I'll call my autobiography some day. It came to me while I was trying to decide what to have for breakfast before I start to eat my elephant in the basement. I haven't counted how many quilts I have down there--I really don't want to know. There's at least 15, and one lady has been waiting for hers since March. But the reason for this blog entry is because if I have all of you as witnesses, maybe I'll get them done faster.
I'm going to finish re-organizing my quilting room today so it's more user-friendly, and then hire a babysitter so I don't panic every time I turn around and Dillon is MIA. This week he got into my nail polish and painted all of his fingers and toes, and the bathroom floor. Yesterday he dumped out a box of spaghetti noodles, opened a container of maple syrup to stick his finger in and lick, and then he dumped a "bag" full of chocolate that was supposed to be for making "banana pops" (it melted in it's bag, just sitting on my counter, and then Dillon ripped it open and helped himself; picture Winne the Pooh eating his pot of honey--that's what Dillon looked like with his chocolate).

Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy!

We just found out that Todd PASSED his MFT licensure exam.
This means that on January 11th 2008,
(two years since he became an intern)
when he has logged 4000 hours,
he will be a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. Wah-hoo!
*Blast* I just talked to Mom and Char who told me that my animated graphic isn't working. It's supposed to be the dancing penguins from Mary Poppins. It's working fine on my screen, hopefully some of you will see the penguins 'cause they're really cute.

Nail party
Linda and Elizabeth (Todd's mom and sister) are visiting this week, and last night we decided to do our nails after the boys went to sleep. It was nearly midnight before we were done,
but the results were worth it!

Words of comfort
Some of you know that I have been pregnant and bleeding. I've had several ultrasounds, looking for a baby, or an ectopic pregnancy, or a blood clot. I found out this morning from a blood test that I miscarried. Even though I'm grateful that it happened early, rather than at 3 mos. along, it is still hard. The following are "words of comfort" I received when I had my last miscarriage, which was 8 years ago this Tuesday.
Dear Child,
It's been only a day since I lost you. Yesterday I had such plans for you and now today you are gone and where you are I cannot go.
You were the answer to our prayers. You should have seen the look in your father's eyes when I told him you were coming. We were so happy. We told everyone you were on your way. You were due on your Grandpa's birthday, which was a comfort as we are still grieving for his loss.
Each morning when I woke, I would stroke my palm across the place where you were growing. Your father teased me about buying maternity clothes before I really needed to. I wanted the whole world to know. Even morning sickness reassured me of your presence.
Whenever I went somewhere, I knew you were with me. It made me complete. I could never get over the miracle that somehow God, and your father and I had created a human life.
Then I lost you.
I'll never forget you. You are my child. You have been part of me. But I miss you, and when I go out now, I feel alone. I don't see life in the same way since I lost you. I walk softer now. Life is more fragile, more precious.
I hope someday I will be able to have another baby, but it will never be the same as it was with you. The feelings I've had with you are separate and unique.
I love you. You will always hold a place in my heart.
Your mother
My life is but a weaving
Between my God and me
I let Him choose the colors
He worketh steadily
Offtimes he worketh sorrow
And I, within my heart,
Forget he sees the pattern
While I see only part.
The dark threads were as needful
In the weaver's skillful hand
As the thread of gold and silver
In the pattern he had planned.
Not 'til the loom is silent
And the shuttles cease to fly
Shall God unroll the canvas
And explain the reason why.

It must be very difficult
To be a man in grief.
since "men don't cry" and "men are strong"
No tears can bring relief.
It must be very difficult
To stand up to the test
And field calls and visitors
So she can get some rest.
They always ask if she's alright
And what she's going through,
But seldom take his hand and ask,
"My friend, but how are you?"
He hears her crying in the night
And thinks his heart will break.
He dries her tears and comforts her,
But "stays strong" for her sake.
It must be very difficult
To start each day anew
And try to be so very brave-
He lost his baby too.
