Halloween 2010

Halloween on Saturday is a terrible idea.

Our trunk-or-treat started at 5:00,

which means that we had about 10 hours worth of time to kill today.

So, we filled up the time with work :o).

Todd rented a splitter, and he and the boys split all our wood for the winter.

They were good helpers, and when the work was done

we had a Halloween "linner".

I made this pizza with strips of ham for the web, and olives for spiders.

I wrapped water bottles with adhesive tape and added googly eyes for mummies.

And then I used cheese sticks to make some mini mummy pizza's.

And I added almonds to the breadsticks for "witch fingers".

After lunch, the boys played while I worked on my blog book. I "slurped it up" with Blurb last week, and it was 800 pages long! I am slowly combining and cutting posts to try to get it down to 400 pages before I have it printed. It's been fun to review the last four years. I can't believe how many incidents I have forgotten--I'm so glad I wrote them down!

After what seemed like an eternity (for kids AND parents)

we FINALLY went trick-or-treating.

Then we came home and had hot chocolate.

Now I think I feel a movie night coming on...

Costume Parade

For the first time ever, I remembered to bring my camera to the Halloween Parade at the elementary school. Luckily I got pictures of each of the boys just before the camera batteries died.

The kids walk around the block, while all the parents watch on the South side of the school. After the parade has passed, all the parents walk to the East and watch it again :o)

Dillon led the parade as Darth Vader, minus the mask and light saber because masks and weapons were not allowed. Caleb went as a bat, and Brayden borrowed a Mario costume from a friend.

I was going to make a yellow trick-or-treat bag with a question mark on it for Brayden to carry, but I ran out of time.

The Itsy Bitsy Spider

When Dillon was a baby, I bought some black fleece to make a spider hat.

I finally made it...today. It only took me five years. I started it at 10:15 this morning, and Justin wore it to the costume parade at the elementary school at 11:00 (minus the eyes).

One thing led to another, and before I knew it, I had made a little fleece jacket as well.

I only had to call my mom once. And my friend Marsha once. And Mike at Bernina once. It's been YEARS since I tried to do a buttonhole, and my machine was giving me fits, but I finally got it to work.

I ran out of fleece before I was able to make pants, but luckily Andrea gave me all of her son's baby clothes before she moved, and there were some black sweatpants included. I found some red felt, and...

...sewed an hourglass on his bum!

(I know it's supposed to be on the underside, but I thought it was cuter on his bum)

Big Brother

Dillon is such a good big brother. He is constantly fussing over Justin, making sure he's 100% comfortable at all times.

Here's Dillon's crazy hair. He asked me to make it crazy, but when he saw it in the mirror he got worried and asked, "Are you SURE it's crazy hair day?"

Today is crazy hair day at school.

I offered to spray glitter in their hair, but they weren't ready to go that far.

Yesterday Caleb had scouts after school, so Brayden and Dillon walked home together. Dillon came in the house, but Brayden didn't. I went to the window to look for him, and found this:

He was out there talking to Miriam for 15 minutes

before he finally came inside.

Really?

As I was eating breakfast this morning, I flipped through the pages of an American Girl catalog that came in the mail yesterday.

How does a mother of four boys get on that mailing list??

Anyway, I'm just wondering who in the world has enough money to pay for headgear for their $95 doll?
